Zoologist Lawrence’s observations show that fish are actually very alert. He once vividly depicted an African male called “lame-footed fish” carrying stray small fish back to his nest with his mouth. The thing is this: one day, it was very late, most of the small fish had returned to the nest, and the female was watching around the nest. At this time, Lawrence put some earthworm fragments into the fish tank, which the female disdained, but the male who was collecting the late-returning fish left his post without permission. He bit a worm and chewed it. Suddenly, the male saw a small fish leaving the nest, so he rushed to take the small fish into his full mouth. At this time, the male fish was faced with an unusual problem: should it swallow the earthworms or return the small fish to its nest? Lawrence thought: “If fish have thought, then it should be at this moment.” For a few seconds, the male remained motionless, but it could be seen that all his sensory organs were tense at the time. Finally, the male fish came up with a clever and simple solution: spit everything in his mouth on the bottom of the tank, then eat the earthworms in a hurry and stare at the little fish while eating. After eating, the male took the little fish home with him.

An example of Quijie, a scientist, also shows that fish have the ability to think. He caught a fish on a bridge that struggled and dragged the line 200 meters away until it straightened out. Then the fish swam back toward the pier, swam around the stake on the pier for several times, suddenly pulled hard, and the fishing line was broken! If this is over, you might say that the fish rescued itself by accident. Quijie continued to watch. Twenty minutes later, he saw the escaped fish and bit the bait on the hook. This time, instead of swimming far away, Quijie swam several times around the stake under the bridge, breaking the fishing line again. Many people have encountered the fish caught and fled and the fish ate bait without hooking things, it seems that the fish can constantly accumulate experience in the competition with people.

The ability of fish to recognize colors has been confirmed by many tests by scientists. A small bottle marked with a certain color is placed in the fish pond, where the fish swims and gives it some food. Then put the small bottle with other color marks into the fish pond. If the fish approaches, lightly tap the fish’s tail with a charged wire as punishment. After five to ten repetitions, most fish can recognize red, brown, yellow and green. Fish can also distinguish different shapes, as scientists have demonstrated with specific patterns and feeding experiments. In the experiment, a circle and a square object were used. If the fish swam towards the circle, they were encouraged to eat. If the fish swam towards the square, nothing was gained. In this way, the fish immediately chose to swim towards the circle instead of the square object.

It is reported that in a fish pond with a small mobile platform, many ant eggs were placed on the platform at some time. Under the platform, a rope was tied, and the end of the rope was hung into the water. The goldfish in the pond soon learned to turn the platform by pulling the rope, so that the eggs could fall into the water like showers and become their own food.
