According to media reports, a wild giant panda named “National Treasure” appeared in Yanjin County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. It was listed as the murderer of a sheep by a pair of brothers. It was brutally killed with a gun and then stripped and sold meat. Is it hard for you to believe that it’s too late for people to protect pandas? How can anyone hunt them? As we all know, pandas are our national treasure, but besides this, what else do you know about pandas? Today I will study with Zhi Lijun.
1. Pandas used to be called pandas.
The panda’s ancestor is the primordial panda. The scientific name of the panda is actually “panda”. It means “panda-like panda”. That is to say, “panda in essence, but panda in appearance.” Strictly speaking, “panda” is a wrong noun. This “wrong answer” was caused by the fact that before liberation, the Beibei Museum in Chongqing, Sichuan Province, exhibited panda specimens with the words “panda” across the sign from left to right. However, at that time, the newspaper headlines were used to read from right to left, so the reporters mistook “panda” for “panda” in their reports. The word “panda” has been widely disseminated in the media, so it is difficult to correct it if we get used to it. Therefore, people have to make the right mistakes and call “panda” as “panda”.
2. Pandas were first known in the West in 1869, when French missionaries were given a panda fur.
In the spring of 1869, French missionary David received a panda fur in Dengchigou, Baoxing, Sichuan. He said, “This will be an interesting new species in science.” This discovery will fill a gap in the world’s animals. Later, he sent the captured panda to France. Unfortunately, the panda died on the way because it could not withstand the turbulence and climate changes. David made specimens of the panda and sent them to the National Museum in Paris, France, for exhibition. The world’s first giant panda type specimens were thus produced.
3. Pandas have lived on Earth for two or three million years.
According to scientists, the panda ancestors appeared in the early pluvial period 2-3 million years ago. Pandas are smaller than today’s pandas. Since then, pandas have adapted to the life of subtropical bamboo forests, and their size has gradually increased and they depend on bamboo for their livelihood. In the middle and late Pleistocene, which is 500,000 to 700,000 years ago, the giant panda flourished.
4. The life span of a wild panda is about 20 years.
Giant pandas are three years old, and the average life span of wild giant pandas is 15 years, and that of captive giant pandas is 17 years. It is said that the longest living longevity star in the panda family lived to 37 years old, which is about 100 years old.
5. Pandas seem gentle but ferocious.
Bamboo is the staple food of pandas. In addition to bamboo, pandas also eat wild fruits, insects, bamboo rats, takin and other animal carcasses. The animals that live with giant pandas in bamboo forests include golden monkeys, antelopes and pandas. They don’t usually grab food and spend most of their time in peace. But if animals provoke them for no reason, they will “start”.
Although giant pandas seem to be invincible, there are still some antagonistic animals in their habitat, such as golden cats, leopards, jackals, wolves, yellow-throated minks, etc., but they mainly attack the young and sick elderly of giant pandas, because the young and strong giant pandas are still “highly skilled in martial arts”, and they inherit their ancestors. The panda’s fierce temperament, once provoked, will fight back bravely. They hit the enemy with their big palms, and they hit the enemy with their strong bodies. The leopard and wolf were also afraid of meeting the strong panda and had to make a detour.
6. Panda manure is organic manure.
Panda intestine and stomach absorb function is not good, the excrement retains 70% of the nutrition, coupled with the food of captive panda added many other nutritious food, so the content of protein, crude fiber in the excrement is very high, can be called organic fertilizer transporter, Sichuan has a kind of tea called “Panda Tea”, fertilizer is applied. It’s panda dung. Newborn pandas eat their mothers’dung, because the intestines of their cubs are sterile, and they must ingest the same kind of dung to obtain intestinal flora that are very important for survival.
7. Female pandas have only about two days of estrus each year.
Female giant pandas usually have the best time to conceive for only one to two days each year. If they can’t seize the chance to conceive for two days, they will have to wait another year to get pregnant. No wonder pandas are so scarce!
8. Pandas are good at sports. They like climbing trees and swimming.
Giant pandas often feel clumsy and slow. In fact, giant pandas are not stupid at all. They are all masters of tree climbing. When giant pandas were young, tree climbing and swimming were their compulsory courses. They climbed trees at least once a day, and they would swim as much as possible with water.
